learn and apply navigation skills to your pre-trip planning, your track setting, and your ski descents.
become more confident with knowing where you are in the terrain, even when you’ve never been there before.
spend 4 days with ACMG Ski Guides who are there to instruct and teach and answer your questions/work on the skills you want to spend time developing
6 students per group max.
COURSE ITINERARY
Day 1 - classroom day (1/2 day inside, 1/2 day outside)
- trip plans, route plans, whiteout navigation plans
- map and compass skills (bearings, orienting the map, interpreting the map onto terrain, resection, position fixing)
- digital navigation tools
- trip planning resources
- advanced decision-making tools/techniques
Day 2, 3, 4 - field days (venues include Dogtooth Range, Rogers Pass, 93/N, Lake Louise area)
- track setting and micro-navigation decisions
- field navigation techniques (handrails, bearings, map use, resection, terrain interpretation)
- practice whiteout navigation (if conditions allow)
- travel on multiple aspects and in multiple elevation bands
- complete classic traverses (Little Sifton, Lily-Dome, Youngs Traverse, Chick-a-Boom, Top Hat, etc.)
- use our new skills to find the best skiing possible!.
